Cecilia Tuxbury, Celia, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2017 at Pleasant Bay Nursing and Rehab. Celia was born September 3, 1917and lived in Newburyport and Newbury until moving to Chatham in 2006.
She was the beloved wife of the late William F. Tuxbury; mother of William F. Jr. and his wife, Edith, of Chatham; Richard A. and his wife, Joanne, of Homosassa, FL. She adored her grandchildren: Dr. Kathryn Tuxbury of Quincy, James and Lorrin Tuxbury of Wellesley and Susan and Matthew Formica of Salem. Celia was blessed with great-grandchildren; Charlotte, Emma, Madeline, Caroline, Samuel and Maxwell.
Celia had a beautiful infectious smile and a wonderful attitude. She was a volunteer for 20 years at the Danvers Hospital and with the Girls Scouts. She enjoyed swimming, golf, skiing and traveling. In her sixties, she went skiing in the Swiss Alps. At Pleasant Bay Nursing Celia put over 10,000 miles on her wheelchair, as she traveled the halls. She enjoyed the activities and feeding the birds each day.
The family would like to thank the entire staff and volunteers at Pleasant Bay Nursing Home for their loving care during last ten years.
A Mass for Celia will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Immaculate Conception Parish, 42 Green Street, Newburyport at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, P.O. Box 236, South Wellfleet 02663 in memory of Cecilia Tuxbury.
