After 25 years of service he retired from the Air Force as a Sr. Master Sergeant. He settled in Chatham, and started his business which is known currently as Countryside Landscape Co. He spent his winters in Big Pine Key, FL.
At 78 years of age he decided to move to Flamingo Beach, Costa Rica full time. He resided there for 15 years. Due to his declining health, he decided to move back to Chatham and be closer to his family. Sadly, he passed away suddenly while riding his bike.
He is survived by two sons Arthur K. Hilbert and Eric E. Hilbert, daughter-in-law Lisa Hilbert (Cleary), six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
