He was born in Clinton, TN, on September 6, 1948, the son of Roy and Bessie (Cox) Ellis. He married Debra Chesteen in Decatur, IL, on November 18, 1977. She preceded him in death, on October 4, 2018.
Roy worked as a brick mason throughout Springfield alongside his brother. Their hands touched almost every building in the city. Roy was a member of Chatham United Methodist Church and International Union Brick Layers. He was a passionate bass fisherman, and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Roy had a great love for cooking, especially when grilling was involved. He was a master mason who was strong-willed and had a good sense of humor.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ernest and Don Ellis; sister, Mary Wells; and son, Roy “Scott” Ellis.
Roy is survived by his siblings, Billie Butler of Virden, IL, Georgia Palmer of Springfield, IL, Marie Bietsh of Spring Hill, TN, Linda Spike of Banbridge, GA, Nancy Barnwell of East Point, FL, and Bobbie Padjen of Spring Grove, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Inurnment will be held at Croninger Cemetery in Cisco, IL.
