He was born on June 26, 1953, to John Thomas Owen and Betty Rae Owen of Decatur, Illinois.
After John graduated from Stephen Decatur High School, he went on to serve in the Army.
After serving in the Army, he chose a career in Heating and Air. John was highly admired by all the people he touched.
John was preceded in death by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Owen.
John leaves behind two sons, John Thomas (wife, Jodie) Owen III and Floyd Gregory Owen; six grandchildren; his sisters, Pamela Rae Owen (husband, Gary) Telger, Barbara Lorraine Owen (husband, Michael) Sibert, Deborah Sue Owen Markowitz, and Susan Ann Owen Brown; two nieces; and seven nephews.
In 2006, John retired and spent his time hunting and fishing. He also had a great love of music.
The family will host a graveside ceremony at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Department of Defense.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause John felt strongly about.
