Mr. Pittman was born in McMinnville, Tennessee, the son of the late Willie E. Pittman, Sr. and Mary Baker Pittman. He attended Emory and Henry College and the University of Virginia. After serving in the Korean War with the US Air Force, Mr. Pittman worked to support his community at the Virginia Employment Commission. His commitment to service continued when he became a Charter Member of the Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad. Mr. Pittman also volunteered for many years, alongside his wife, with the American Red Cross. He was an active member of the Adult Fellowship Class and the Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church.
Mr. Pittman is survived by his daughter Barbara Pittman Lawson, her husband Ken, a grandson Tommy Ferrier and his partner Andrés Hernández. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Nunley of Seffner, Florida and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his granddaughter, Elizabeth Ferrier, and his two brothers, Edward H. Pittman and Steven B. Pittman, Sr.
As Mrs. Pittman passed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the loving couple’s wish was to have their memory celebrated together. In honor of this wish, services for both Mr. Pittman and Mrs. Pittman will be combined. The visitation will be held on May 9th from 5-7pm and the funeral will take place on May 10th at 10am, both at Teague Funeral Home in Charlottesville, VA.
