battle with cancer at the age of 65.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents June and William Reckert. He is survived by his loving
wife Betty Reckert of Zion Crossroads, VA; their children, Lindsey Saylor and her husband
Steve Saylor of Yorktown, VA and Ashley Valcourt and her husband Dave Valcourt of
Swampscott, MA; sister Pamela Graham-George of South Riding, VA; five grandchildren Ryan
Saylor, Chloe Saylor, Evan Saylor, Dean Valcourt, and Scarlett Valcourt; and two nieces
Christina Graham of Charles Town, WV and Jennifer Graham of Ashburn, VA.
Bill was born on July 31, 1955 in Arlington, VA. He graduated from Herndon High School in
1973 and went on to attend Palm Beach Community College where he graduated with a major in
Photography.
Bill and Betty were married in 1981 and they welcomed their two daughters, Lindsey in 1983
and Ashley in 1986. Bill also became a proud grandfather to five grandchildren, all of whom
were among the greatest loves of his life. He built a career as a photographer working for the
government before retiring to his bay home in White Stone, VA. He always had a sharp eye for
beautiful things, which was reflected in his talent as a photographer. Throughout his life, Bill was
also an avid University of Virginia sports fan and music enthusiast. He integrated his love of
music and photography by becoming embedded in the Charlottesville music scene where he
created photography exhibits of local musicians.
A celebration of life is planned for a future time when his family and friends can safely gather.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Maryland School for the Blind or
the Virginia Athletics Foundation.
