IN THE CARE OF
Teague Funeral Service
Wanda "Sue" Bryant Hubbard, 82, transitioned to her heavenly home on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at the University of Virginia Medical Center with her beloved family by her side.
Sue was born in Hazard County, Kentucky on December 16, 1940 to the late Walter "Dink" and Pauline (Hensley) Bryant. She grew up in the coal mining camp of Leatherwood, KY, and was very active in sports, especially baseball.
Sue also known as “Granny Sue” was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a beautiful zest for life and a passion for the things that were important to her. An avid sports fan, Sue was a faithful UVA supporter who would never miss a game and loved her times of tailgating with friends and sharing all her delicious homemade goodies. She was always decked out, head to toe, in her beloved orange and blue. Sue always looked forward to this time of the year as she celebrated with family in July at the reunion in Tennessee, beach in August at the Outer Banks and then UVA football season, followed by her favorite passion – UVA basketball. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her sister, Linda (Bryant) Nader and two brothers, Walter (Earl) Bryant and Robert Keith Bryant.
Sue is survived by her husband of 61 years, Arthur "Leon" Hubbard, their son, Rich (Judy) Hubbard; their daughter, Rhonda Hubbard; and their son, Randy Hubbard. Sue has four grandchildren, Lauren (Jacob) Bales, Austin (Korri) Hubbard, Kayla Hubbard and Joshua (Tiffany) Smith. Sue has three great-grandchildren, Candace Hubbard , Nathaniel Bales and Owen Bales, with one on the way in January. Sue is survived by her loving sister, Pearl (Bryant) Harper, of LaFollette, TN.
Granny Sue loved and adopted the family of Donna and Ronnie Collier including their children, Jenna and Chris Easton (Collier and Mattie) and Greg and Elaine Collier. For 36 years, we have spent Thanksgivings together, parts of Christmas, some Easters, and lots of birthdays.
A special thanks to Donna who came from Florida and Greg from Wyoming to be with us during the hospitalization. A heartfelt thank you to her good buddy, UVA Associate Athletic Director, Ronnie Wideman, with whom she had a special friendship. Thank you to her good friend, Kristie Kintner from Virginia Athletics Foundation who together with mom would “help solve the world’s problems”. Also, a special thanks to Dirk Katstra and his family, of whom Granny Sue was very fond.
The family will receive friends from 1:00pm - 2:00 pm on Friday, July 7, 2023 at Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Road Charlottesville, VA 22903. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm in the Chapel at Teague Funeral Home. Interment to immediately follow at Monticello Memory Garden, 670 Thomas Jefferson Pkwy, Charlottesville VA 22902.
We will have a celebration of Granny Sue’s life with food and fellowship immediately following interment at Connect Church, 2080 Lambs Road (beside Albemarle High School), Charlottesville, VA 22901. Everyone is invited.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sue's honor to a charity of your choice.
