Roger "Bo" Nelson Pollard, 82, of Hagerstown, Md., formerly of Charlottesville, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at his home. Born on January 16, 1934, in Charlottesville, he was the son of the late Francis K. and Verna R. Pollard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Francis K., Charles M. and William E. Pollard; and his step grandson, Jason Toms. Mr. Pollard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betsy Cole Pollard of Hagerstown, Md.; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cindy Pollard of Palmyra; daughter and son-in-law, Kris and David Goldberg of Gaithersburg, Md.; grandsons, Tyler, Alec and Josh Goldberg of Gaithersburg, Md.; stepgrandson, Jesse Toms of Palmyra; and sister, Rita P. Burgess of Palmyra. Mr. Pollard was a graduate of McIntire High School. After serving in the U.S. Army, he worked for the Virginia Dept. of Water Resources before transferring to the U.S. Geological Survey for 33 years. Once retired from the USGS, he worked part-time for Virginia National Bank and the U.S. Census Bureau in both Va. and Md. My Pollard was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid Civil War relic enthusiast. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gold mining and winemaking. A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2016, at Monticello Memory Gardens with the Reverend Sidney Craig officiating. The Charlottesville Albemarle American Legion Post #74 will provide military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service.
