Priscilla Diane Rice Mitchell was born on July 04, 1941, in Charlottesville, VA to Ezra and Hilda Rice. She was a life-long member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She served in a variety of officer roles during her active years. She especially loved teaching the children about Jesus. She also greatly enjoyed sewing, cooking, outdoor sports during her family’s young years, photography, traveling to see family and national parks during her later years.
Diane’s favorite Bible verses included Philippians 4:4-9, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, and Proverbs 18:24. Her closest Friend was Jesus. Her favorite photography subject was a sky full of clouds with the sunbeams coming through a break in the clouds, because it reminded her of Jesus’ soon return.
Diane’s family extends their deepest appreciation to all who have prayed for or contacted the family, and for the very professional and personal care and support shown by the staff at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital Emergency Department, Cornell One, and Cornell Three where she spent several weeks; her family doctor, Dr. Lowdon, and her neurologist, Dr. Adams; along with the same care and support given her by the Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad, Charlottesville Fire Department, Charlottesville-Albemarle-UVA Emergency Communications Center, and most recently by the staff of the Hospice of the Piedmont.
Diane is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert “Bob” Mitchell; two sons, Robert “Bob” Jr; and Greg and his wife Teri, and their six children, Matthew, Andrew, Elisabeth, Abigail, Rebecca Layne, and Nathan of Tennessee; brother David Rice and his wife Anita of North Carolina; three nephews, and several cousins, and a very special friend and college roommate Laura Ames of Maryland.
