Maggie Lozelle Mays

Maggie Lozelle Mays, 93 of Alberene went to be with the Lord on August 28, 2016. Born October 28, 1922, she was proceeded in death by her mother Ethel McCary; husbands John K. Spencer and Cecil C. Mays; beloved children Kenneth (Mike) Spencer, daughter Roxie F. Smith; cherished grandchildren Todd Spencer, Stephen Spencer, Ricky Smith, Michael Johnson, Amber Johnson; and dear daughter-in-law Donna Spencer. She is survived by her children Donnie Spencer and special friend Phyllis, Ronnie Spencer, Larry Spencer, Monty Spencer and wife Patsy, Jean Johnson and husband John, Roger Mays and wife Judy, son-in-law Roy Smith, 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Lozelle was a life-long member of Alberene Baptist Church. She graduated from Alberene High School. Lozelle worked at Kenny Burger in Charlottesville for many years until it closed, then retired from Albemarle County Public Schools. Lozelle loved to watch hummingbirds from her front porch. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, listening to music, traveling, and loved being surrounded by family and friends. The family would like to thank all of the caregivers and all of you who have offered their love, prayers and support. Memorial contributions can be made to The Hospice of the Piedmont. Teague Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements. Family will receive visitors on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 6pm to 8pm. A memorial service will be held 11am, Wednesday August 31, 2016 at the Alberene Baptist Church, 2728 Plank Road, North Garden, Virginia. Interment will follow at Alberene Cemetery.
