She was born to Fred and Goldie Fuller who preceded her in death; along with her sisters Jane Fleming, Rose Sutherland, and Betty Smith and her brothers Ralph and Bobby Fuller.
She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Colley; her dear children, Tamah Colley, David Colley and his wife Kathy, Melissa Woycik and her husband Chuck, and Rebecca Coates (and friend Darren Coffey). Joan also has five precious grandchildren – Travis Colley, Taylor Archer, Cyan Coates, Jacob Woycik and Brant Woycik. She was born in Haysi, Virginia and is survived by four siblings – Nancy Barnes (husband Jim), Gary, Danny, and Roger Fuller (wife Jan).
Joan lived a full life! She collected butterflies because she loved their fragile beauty; she loved taking pictures (and looking at them) to capture a moment for all time; she loved holidays as a time for family to gather; she loved word searches as there was always one more word to find; she loved going to soccer games and cheering for a win for the Eagles; she loved Chic-Fil-A for their chicken sandwich and brownie; she loved to collect sea shells, walk along the beach, wade into the water, and feel the cool breeze. Her journey on Earth is done and now, she is at peace with the Lord.
A memorial service celebrating Joan’s life is scheduled on April 21, 2023 at 2pm, Monticello Memorial Gardens, Charlottesville, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of VCU’s Sheltering Arms and St. Mary’s and Martha Jefferson hospitals.
