Judy was born on October 3, 1942, in Charlottesville, Virginia, to the late Norman Knight and Roxie Houchens. Judy was a lifelong resident of Charlottesville. She was born in Belmont and enjoyed many happy Belmont reunions with her childhood friends over the years. Judy was an extraordinarily beautiful woman, inside and out. She was crowned Miss Albemarle and Dogwood Queen in 1960, and had a smile that lit up any room she entered. She proudly worked for the University Of Virginia Medical Center for over 47 years. She began her employment in 1962 as a clerk-typist, then was promoted to Executive Secretary to hospital director John Harlan. Because of her people skills and intricate knowledge of hospital operations she was chosen for a promotion to Telecommunications Services Manager in 1981, where she led multiple upgrades to the hospital's computerized phone systems and managed a large team of operators. She loved the people she worked with over the years and made many lifelong friends from her time at The University of Virginia Medical Center. She loved UVA sports and hosted many tailgate football parties over the years.
Judy loved her family and being part of the Knight, Houchens and Lynch families brought her great joy. Judy was a loving, protective, and giving mother and grandmother to her daughter Wendy and granddaughter Jesse, and her loss will be felt for the rest of their days.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Wendy Lynch Goodman, her granddaughter Jesse Cierra Goodman, her sister, Pamela Knight Layman Brown, and a huge extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
