John Henry Shifflett, age 90, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2015. Born on March 26, 1925 in Albemarle County he was a son of the late Clarence H. and Nellie F. Shifflett. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Graves and Gladys Farish; brother, Elwood “Pete”; and son-in-law, Joseph L. Grimm. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Violet; three children, Yvonne Rockett and her husband, Jon, John Shifflett, Jr and his wife Karen, and Elizabeth Kirby and her husband Zack; four grandchildren, Eric Grimm and his wife Colleen, Christie Grimm, John David Grimm and his wife Jenny, and Jennifer Samuels and her husband Josh; and five great grandchildren, Kyle, Ella, Ethan, Zeke and Blakely. John loved his family deeply which was shown through his actions. His family will sorely miss him. He is also survived by his siblings Dot Walton, Daisy Fitzgerald, Gilbert and Calvin. John was a veteran and served in the Navy. John worked at Acme Visible Records for 36 years. While at Acme, he participated in their softball team and bowling team. He also coached little league baseball and loved his Orioles baseball team. He attended Mount Moriah Methodist Church as he spent his life in White Hall and Crozet and loved his mountains. A funeral service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Teague Funeral Home on Ivy Road. The Reverend John Ward will officiate. Pallbearers will be John Shifflett, Jr., Zack Kirby, Jon Rockett, Eric Grimm, John David Grimm and Josh Samuels. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Charlottesville Albemarle American Legion Post #74. A reception prior to the service will be begin at 1:00 p.m. and all who loved John are invited. If you would like to honor John Henry—give away a smile.
