James Maxwell Morris, age 81, of Fluvanna County, Virginia, passed in peace from his home into the arms of Jesus on September 17, 2018. His loving and caring wife Laura was by his side throughout his battle with cancer to the very end. Born April 14, 1937 in Albemarle County to James Phillip Morris and Lillian Lucille Howard, Jim loved the country life. He loved the outdoors, loved fishing, and adored his four labrador companions: Alex, Cody, Jake, and Toby.
His highly respected refrigeration/HVAC career began at Monticello Dairy then progressed to UVA as Superintendent of Facilities Management for over 20 years until retirement in 1999. Jim was well known throughout his community arena and was a member of Rivanna Baptist Church.
James will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 20 years, Laura Short Morris and his children, Samuel Maxwell Morris and Amy Suzette Ricotta (Pete) along with their mother Mary Katherine Piersanti. James will also be fondly remembered by his three grandsons, Ian Lawrence (Jen) and Adam Lawrence (Kaila) and Daniel Ricotta (Angelica) along with nine great-grandchildren, Justan, Dorian, Gabe, Adelai, Dylan, Harlow, Madaley, Sage and Felix. Also remembering his life are his three sisters, June Gibson (Carl), Anne Goode and Barbara Harris.
James was predeceased by father James and mother Lillian, two infant children Debra and Paul and a brother Rodger Morris.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all the doctors and nurses for the dedication and care. We also wish to thank all the staff of the Hospice of the Piedmont for their care and support during this time. A very special thank you is extended to Katherine Piersanti for the outstanding care and love she provided to Jim, and to Laura, during his illness.
