Gordon "Vic" Victor Parmelee II

Vic Parmelee was born June 14, 1940 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Gordon and Betty Schaaf Parmelee. He died May 9, 2023 with his wife by his side near Charlottesville, Virginia following his declining health.

Graduating from New Haven High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1958, Vic served as President of his Senior Class and was a member of the Mask and Gavel Drama Club and the Phi Chi Science Club, heralding a long career of leadership in engineering. He graduated with Distinction in 1963 from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He taught himself how to tackle any project, and thoroughly enjoyed time puttering in his workshop. He was known as “Mr. Fixit”.

Vic returned to Purdue and earned his Masters Degree in Electrical engineering in 1968. Post academic life, he designed radar systems for General Electric in Syracuse, New York. He moved to Charlottesville, Virginia in 1984, working in General Electric’s Radar Systems Division of sales. In 1990 Vic began working as an Army Civilian Employee with the National Ground Intelligence Center in Charlottesville as an analyst. He was a highly regarded employee there and earned many rewards for his expert work. In addition, Vic established lifelong friendships at NGIC.

Although Vic was an understated person, he was not one to be idle. He enjoyed bird watching, model trains, RC flying, bike riding, canoeing, and hiking. He was a proud Adirondack 46r #873, having hiked all 46 peaks of the Adirondacks.

One of the highlights of Vic’s life occurred June 29, 1985 when he had the honor of marrying the love of his life, the former Deborah J. MacFiggen. His sons Mark Parmelee (wife Megan) now of Westfield, New Jersey, and Daniel Parmelee (wife Sarah) now of Jeffersonton, Virginia survive him. Vic is survived also by his sister, Pam Salisbury (husband Stephen), now of Albany, Oregon, and sister, Jill Bosio (husband Bruner) of Pascaguola, Mississippi. Grandchildren, Christopher, Cameron, Carsyn, and Colby also survive him.
