Earl Eugene Shifflett

Earl "Pickey" Shifflett of Crozet, Va. died peacefully, Thursday, June 22, 2017 at his home surrounded by his wife and two daughters. He was born June 9,1947 in Albemarle County, son of the late Lloyd Kemper Shifflett and Cora Frazier Shifflett. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Roger L. Shifflett, Daniel K. Shifflett, David Shifflett, Vernon P. Shifflett, William L. Shifflett and two nephews, Randall N. Shifflett and Steve Hunt. Mr. Shifflett retired after 20 years from the Norfolk Southern Railway where he was a foreman and track inspector. Earl loved the outdoors and his home and spending time with his family and animals. He was a devoted and loving husband and father and a great provider for his family. His kindness and generosity had an impact on many lives. After retiring, he started driving cars for Colonial Auto Center, which he truly enjoyed and developed special friendships there. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara June Shifflett of Crozet, two daughters, Sheila S. Martin and her husband, Thomas (Tj) of Lake Monticello, Alissa A. Layne and her husband Rodney of White Hall, five sisters, Dorothy McAllister and her husband Billy of White Hall, Bonnie Gibson and her husband Wesley of Orange, Connie and Cecil Gibson of Charlottesville, Juanita Garrison of Mt. Fair, Joyce Hunt of Louisa. Grandchildren, Bobbie Crystal Hoffman of Va Beach, Brandon Layne and his finance Morgan Franklin of Earlysville, Brooke Layne Proffitt and her husband Jon of Waynesboro, Trever Martin and his wife Susan of Stuarts Draft, Christian Martin of Lake Monticello, Alyson Martin of Stuart’s Draft and a great granddaughter, Amara Martin, special nephews, Jody Shifflett, Beau Ryan, Jeffrey Shifflett, Rodney McAllister, J B Hunt and numerous nieces and nephews. Special cousins dear to his heart, Jesse McGann and Mora Paje. The family will receive friends Monday, June 26, 2017 at Teague Funeral Home in Charlottesville, Va. from 6 to 8 p.m. and a funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Hillsboro Baptist Church in Crozet, Va. with Joel Jenkins officiating. A reception will follow the burial at the Hillsboro Baptist Church fellowship hall. The family would like to thank the staff at the University of Virginia Medical Center and the Hospice of the Piedmont and for all the calls, visits, cards, flowers, food and prayers from so many friends and family
