Obituary of Daniel John Veliky
Daniel John Veliky, 90, of Charlottesville, Virginia, was called home to his Loving, Heavenly Father on Thursday, November 23, 2023. Dan was born on February 25, 1933 in Emporia, Virginia, the oldest son of the late John Veliky, Jr. and Anna Fetko Veliky. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Louise Manka Veliky; daughter, Laurie Veliky Booker (husband, Granville Bradford Booker); twin sons, Timothy Daniel Veliky (wife, Melanie Foote Veliky) and David John Veliky (wife, Victoria Speakman Veliky), all of Charlottesville; and eight grandchildren, Savannah Veliky, John Veliky, Madison Veliky, Jonah Veliky, Sutton Veliky, Harper Veliky, Emmaline Booker and Caroline Booker. He is also survived by his sisters, Helen Veliky Crickenberger and Arlene Veliky Tiedje, and brother, Milan Veliky. Dan graduated from Greensville County High School in 1950 and farmed in Greensville County, Emporia for 3 years before serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, 1954-1956, where he was stationed in Germany. He met his wife, Louise, at a Lutheran Youth Convention and they were married in 1962 in Stamford, Connecticut. He worked at Ritter Finance Company from 1957-1977 where he became district supervisor, supervising thirteen Virginia offices before retiring. He then shifted to self-employment and obtained his real estate license, as well as his Class A contractor’s license. A hard worker, and trusting in God, he bought, renovated, built and maintained property, primarily around the University of Virginia. His children continue to lead the family business, Veliky L.C. Dan was active in his church, Immanuel Lutheran, on Jefferson Park Avenue, where he was a member for 61 years. He was a Sunday School teacher, a church trustee, an Elder, congregational president, head of the church building expansion and he served on numerous church committees. Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2416 Jefferson Park Avenue, Charlottesville, on Saturday, December 2nd, at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon reception following. Burial will take place at Monticello Memory Gardens at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive family and friends prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. and Pastor Benjamin Maton will officiate. A special thanks to all the wonderful caregivers at the end of his life, especially May Anderson and the staff of Martha Jefferson House.
