Daniel Arthur Belcher passed away on July 7, 2016 from an intracranial hemorrhage at Martha Jefferson Hospital, surrounded by his family. In Charlottesville, Danny leaves behind his wife, Joan, son and grandson, Aaron and Avery, and daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Kevin. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Timothy and Sharon Belcher of State College, PA; brother-in-law, James Harshbarger of Milton, WV; sister- and brother-in-law Janice and William Ridgley of Easton, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Penny Harshbarger of Milton, WV; sister- and brother-in-law Barbara and Frank Walters of Sugar Land, TX; niece Laura Ridgley of Cambridge, MD; and in-laws Matthew and Peggy Elliott of Waynesboro, VA. The eldest son of Arthur and Dollie Belcher, Danny was born and raised in Huntington, WV, where he was a proud member of the Boy Scouts, rising to the rank of Life Scout. After earning an Associate’s Degree from United Electronics Institute, he provided GE Fanuc with 42 years of loyal service as a Test Engineer. As a voracious student of history and science, he enjoyed visiting Civil War battle fields, hunting for fossils, studying astronomy, and reading Louis L’Amour novels. An avid hiker, golfer, and outdoorsman, Danny spent much of his free time traveling to state parks—particularly Seneca State Forest—to escape the modern world and commune with nature. He and Joan especially loved working on their mountaintop land in Pocahontas County, WV, affectionately called “Yonder.” A memorial service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 30 at 11:30am, with interment at Monticello Memory Gardens at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to either Seneca State Forest via the West Virginia State Parks Foundation (http://wvspf.org/donations.html) or the West Virginia Floods Children’s Relief Fund (http://www.savethechildren.org/site/c.8rKLIXMGIpI4E/b.9419587/k.947F/West_Virginia.htm).
