In loving memory of Cindy Lou Burke Carter, a steadfast lady and staunch mother, whose warm spirit touched the lives of many. Born on February 18, 1957, she waltzed into this world on a base in Colorado Springs, and left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. Her passing at the age of 66 leaves a void that can’t easily be filled, but her legacy of love and laughter will endure.
Cindy was a beacon of light in the Carter household, where her husband Dabney Wayne Carter lovingly supported her side through their life’s adventures. She was the proud mother of Dustin Michael Fegley (43, Miami, Fl), Christopher Blake Fegley (38, San Diego, Ca), and Ashley Caitlyn Carter (28, Charlottesville, VA), a trio she showered with boundless affection. Her family was her heartbeat, and her grandchildren—Ilias, Kinsley, Evander, and her newest little blessing from Ashley and Shayne —were the sparkle in her eyes. She also leaves behind her beloved siblings; Brother Jeff & wife Susan Burke and their children Kyle and Brittany Burke, brother Doug and wife Shirley Burke, Sister Cathy and husband Hayden Berry, and brother Mark Burke.
As the eldest of five in an Air Force family, Cindy’s journey whisked her across the globe from Colorado to Italy, Germany, and back again. But it was in Charlottesville that she truly put down roots.
Many might recall her infectious laughter and warmth from her days at Bodo’s Bagels, where she retired just last year. Her gift of gab and Southern charm made her the life of the party, capable of coaxing a smile from even the most serious soul.
She had this knack for spinning tales that could captivate an audience for hours. Her humor was as delightful as her homemade chocolate cookies — unforgettable and comforting. Cindy had a way of making the world seem brighter, and her absence leaves a bit of that brightness dimmed. Her passing leaves a hole in the fabric of our lives—a space where her laughter once danced. But let us not dwell on the silence her absence brings. Instead, let’s celebrate the vibrant life she lived, the love she shared, and the joy she brought to each day. Her spirit will forever linger in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know her.
A celebration of Cindy’s life will be at 1:00pm on her birthday, February 18 at the Elks Lodge #389, 389 Elk Dr. Charlottesville VA 22911.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes you’d consider making a donation in Cindy’s honor to the UVA Cancer Center, https://www.givecampus.com/campaigns/20222/donations/new.
Rest in paradise, dear Cindy Lou Burke Carter. Your laughter echoes in our memories, and your love remains etched in our souls. Until we meet again, may your spirit soar free, spreading warmth and joy wherever it roams.
