Carroll was born on July 4th, 1946 in Charlottesville, to the late Edward M. "Jack" Shifflett and Irene V. Shifflett.
Carroll is survived by his son, Carroll "Lee" Shifflett, Jr. (Ellen), of Charlottesville; daughter Angela Renee Shifflett of Palmyra; granddaughters Nikki Palmer (Shannon) and Macy Cash; grandsons Harrison and Hudson Shifflett; great-grandsons Alex and Jackson Palmer; brother Gene Shifflett (Brenda) of Charlottesville; and sister Diane McMahon (Brian) of Frankford, Delaware. Carroll is also survived by his soul mate of 11 years, Lisa Hoy and her daughter Kristin.
Carroll attended Lane High School and served in the Vietnam War from September 1969 to 1971. He loved his country and he loved being an active member of the Charlottesville VFW.
Carroll also loved Charlottesville and after 38 years he retired from Anheuser-Busch and bought his pride and joy, The Riverside Lunch. Riverside was his dream. He always wanted a mom and pop kind of place where friends could count on good service and good food. He ran a tight ship and took pride in providing quality service and food, and having a clean restaurant. He especially enjoyed all the customers and friends that frequented his restaurant. He never met a stranger and would help anyone who needed it.
In earlier years, Carroll enjoyed driving in the local drag races and he loved muscle cars and attending car shows. He loved music, especially the blues, and he loved to dance. He loved socializing with his friends at Riverside or the VFW. If he was your friend, he was loyal. He was a loving, caring, generous gentleman with a big heart and he will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 6th, 2018 at 1:00, at the Cherry Avenue Christian Church. A graveside service will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
Immediately following the graveside service, the family has invited friends to gather at the Charlottesville VFW Post to celebrate Carroll's life.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 5th, 2018, from 6-8pm, at Teague Funeral Service.
