In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by her brother, Curtis Jameson “Jamie” Wood; and her maternal grandparents, James and Mary Snow. Brandy will be deeply missed by her father, Chester Wood; sister, Gina Newman and her husband, Greg; nephew, Lucien; paternal grandparents, Curtis and Irene Wood; and Godsons, Trey Hicks and Kaleb Hunter Jenkins. She is also survived by her aunts, Trudy Wyant and her husband, Timmy, of White Hall, Lori Collier and her husband, Mike, of Earlysville, and Debbie Blackwell of Free Union; uncles, David and his partner, Wanda, of Free Union, and Keith and his wife, Pam, of Dyke; two cousins that she loved as brother and sister, James Wyant; and Angie Britton, her husband, Brandon, and their three girls, Ashley, Abigail, and Mary Ella; three very dear family friends that she called her adopted sisters, Melissa Martin Loschelder, Beth Anne Morris, and Michelle Stump; and two dear cousins, Buffy Blackwell and Renee Pace. Brandy is also survived by a host of other family and friends that will sorely miss her. Brandy loved all music from Pink to Nirvana and Patsy Cline. She had hoped to have traveled to Big Stone Gap after having seen the movie. She also had a passion for art, reading, and singing. She was known for her collection of Chuck Taylor shoes and knit hats. Even though Brandy fought a hard battle she ultimately won her battle against cancer. Through the trials she faced she always had a smile on her face and a song in her spirit that would bring comfort to her family and friends. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Evergreen Church of the Brethren, 645 Evergreen Church Rd., Stanardsville, VA 22973 by pastors Rick and Janet Parkhurst. Interment will follow in the churchyard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at Teague Funeral Home. Brandy did not want anyone to feel the need to dress formally. Although Brandy liked to dress up from time to time, she was a t-shirt, jeans, and Chuck Taylor’s kind of girl. Her wish was for everyone to feel comfortable. Please wear your favorite band, comic book character, orange (Brandy’s favorite color) t-shirt, jeans, and Chuck Taylor’s, if you have them, in her honor. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the UVA Medical Center’s MICU staff, Martha Jefferson Oncology, and her nurses from the Cornell units at Martha Jefferson Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Brandy’s memory to Chester Wood, 6560 Pond View Place, Earlysville, VA 22936.
