The family would like to express their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they have received since the news of Alex’s death.
He was predeceased by his irreplaceable mother Lisa in 2017. Alex is survived by his father Daniel; his younger brother and best friend Nick; Nick’s fiancé Susan Barlow; and his aunt, uncle, and cousins in England. Alex also leaves behind his partner in life, Alley Hogg, who is currently studying to be a nurse anesthetist. The family treasured Alley’s role in Alex’s life and the happiness she brought him.
As his initial years were formed in New Orleans, Alex became a life-long “New Orleans Saints” fan. He later returned to the south to attend and graduate from “Ole Miss”, which further formed his love for many southern teams. He developed an encyclopedic knowledge of sports, for which he was well known. This knowledge was perhaps equaled only by his interest and knowledge of music. From Phish and Grateful Dead to jazz and bluegrass, he traveled to see concerts all over the country.
Some of his other traditions included weekly Sunday dinners with his father, UVA games with his girlfriend Alley, and dog walks with the family. He was always drawn to the finer things in life, sharing this enthusiasm with his family and friends.
Alex was particularly excited to see his brother Nick get married next month, and to serve as his brother’s Best Man. As the older brother, he fulfilled the traditional role of both teasing and teaching his younger brother, while always upholding their loving friendship.
At the time of his death, Alex was working at Merrill Lynch/Bank of America in the Wealth Management Department, where he valued his work, colleagues, and devoted clients.
The service for Alex will be held on Saturday, February 4, at 5:00pm at City Church, 1010 Rio Road East, Charlottesville, VA with Pastor Pete Hartwig presiding.
