Albert Alexander Stinnie

Albert Alexander Stinnie was born May 5, 1955 to Leroy Michael Stinnie Sr. and Eva Mae Loving Stinnie in Charlottesville, Virginia. He left this life to join them in the arms of his loving savior, Jesus Christ on May 21, 2020. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Patricia Ann Stinnie, Leroy Michael Stinnie Jr., Clarence Preston Stinnie, and Melvin Lorenzo Stinnie. A dedicated family man, Albert’s passions were gardening, cooking, and taking care of his family. After attending Lane High School, he worked in dining services at Sponsor Hall at the University of Virginia, The Omni Hotel, local restaurant Coupe De Ville, and enjoyed many years cooking for the brothers at the Eta Chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon, the first Fraternity at the University of Virginia, and the oldest in the Commonwealth, where he served as Head Chef before his retirement. Albert was known by many names—Bo, Mr. Albert, Papa, Papa Stinnie, most of all, Daddy. He was known for his sharp sense of fashion, and often topped off his outfits with his wide collection of hats. He was active in his community, and was often too humble to receive recognition. Every summer, he could be counted on to organize his neighbors to cook an abundance of food for hundreds of people for Westhaven Community Day. He had a quick wit, and was known for being patient, kind and soft spoken, and was a fierce protector of his girls. He loved to walk, and could often be seen strolling city streets with his children, grandchildren or his beloved dog, Snowball. A man of strong faith, Albert regularly attended services and Bible Studies at Jerusalem Church and Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church, and enjoyed traveling to various other churches in the region on Sunday mornings to accompany his best friend, Reverend Kendrick Edwards. He leaves to mourn a brother, James Edward Stinnie, sisters Glenna Marie Stinnie and Odessa Burton of Charlottesville Virginia, children Sharron Denise Swingler, Adrian Maurice Johnson, Albert Alexander Hardy, Jamie Alexander Johnson, Janie Denise Johnson, and Eva Mae Johnson, all of Charlottesville, Virginia, a devoted partner, Joy Amarylis Johnson, seventeen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2020 at Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2020 at Holly Memorial Gardens, 3251 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville. The repast will follow at 1625 A Madison Avenue, Charlottesville, Virginia 22903.
