Zelda House Harris 97, of Charlotte died November 7, 2011 at Presbyterian Main. She was born on October 24, 1914 to Adam P and Allie C House in Union County, N. C. She was the tenth of eleven children.
She was a 1933 graduate of Tech High School in in Charlotte. She worked at Hudson Hosiery for many years and then as a bookkeeper for Baptist Book Store (now Lifeway).
In 1934 she married William “Bill” Harris. When Bill was in the navy during World War II they lived in Newport News, Va. During that time Zelda worked in the shipyard.
Zelda loved fishing, bowling on the church bowling team and working with the flowers in her yard.
In 1955 she became a member of Commonwealth Baptist Church (now Briar Creek Baptist) where she taught in the children’s department. She loved being a member of The Women’s Missionary Union and also worked in the library. Her special help was typing all the cards for the card catalog. During retirement years she loved traveling with “The Jolly Bunch” the seniors group of the church.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Bill in 1987, and all ten of her siblings.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Zelda was a very special lady, always willing to help anyone in need. She loved her church and all of her friends.
