Sue grew up in Roxboro, NC and graduated from Person Senior High School in 1963. She met her loving and devoted husband, Bill, while in high school, who proposed 7 months after they began dating on the way to see a movie. Needless to say, they never made it to the movie but instead romantically eloped in Dillon, SC to get married just two weeks before she graduated high school.
Following graduation she attended cosmetology school. She moved with Bill and his family to Charlotte, NC in 1964 where she went on to help the family start a new wholesale building products business. With her help and support the business went on to be very successful for 50 years!
Sue spent her life as a homemaker, completely content to be a wife and mom, raising her 3 children and supporting them in their various hobbies – ice skating, horseback riding, piano, bowling, dancing – taking them to every lesson, attending every competition! She even went storm chasing with her weather loving son!
Sue was extremely creative and artistic. She loved to decorate her homes, sewing custom curtains, shades and pillows. When her children were younger she handmade elaborate Halloween costumes for them from the wigs to the shoes. They were so detailed that people would call their loved ones to the door to see them!
She did the same for other holidays, painstakingly hand painting Easter eggs and decorating the house for Christmas. She went to the ends of the earth to find every single item on the Christmas list for her children! She would stay up all night to cook Thanksgiving meals for the family. She truly thrived on being a mother!
Sue absolutely LOVED fashion and makeup. She always looked immaculate everywhere she went, whether it was the grocery store or her exercise rehabilitation class. Every hair was in place, her beautiful nails always painted and her makeup always perfect. Once she even dressed in an evening gown to watch the Oscars!
Favorite memories include summers spent at the family beach house in Cherry Grove, SC where she loved to tan on the beach. She was a master shark tooth collector and would spend hours combing the beach to find them. She loved going on customer trips for the family business with Bill. They took several trips across the US and Europe and created wonderful memories together! Driving her cherry red Lexus sports coupe was also one of her favorite things to do. She would turn up the music and turned heads in it more than once!
Sue was very witty and had a wonderful way with words! She provided us countless laughs and memories with her use of words over the years that made her so unique! She also loved numerology, making connections with numbers that most people would not notice!
The love for her family was never more apparent than when she became a grandmother. She absolutely ADORED her 5 grandchildren and loved each of them for their uniqueness! They truly became the light of her life and nothing made her happier than seeing them! Their pictures cover every wall and every table in their home. She was so proud to be their grandmother!
Sue was a member at First Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC since the 1980’s. She was very strong in her faith and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour many years ago. She is no doubt walking with him now for eternity!
Sue is predeceased by her parents and her sister, Faye Long.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Bill Corder; her children, Lisa Barciszewski (Allen), Lori Powell (Brian), and Heath Corder (Christy); her grandchildren, Madison Powell, Autumn Ballenger, Jared Barciszewski, Olivia Powell, and Brayden Barciszewski; her brothers, Sam Wilkins (Georgia) and Donnie Wilkins; and many other loving extended family members.
