Woodrow "Dooney" "Wood" Ellington Wilson

Wood was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting and fishing. Above all, Wood valued his family. There were more meals than can be remembered with the best fried chicken, lemonade, and banana pudding. Wood had a fantastic sense of humor with many one-liners that will be remembered for years to come. He always had a vegetable garden by the summertime and he was generous with the bounty. That generosity was a common theme for his life and he never met a stranger. In fact, to make sure you were not a stranger you would usually get a nickname. His smile and friendly spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Wood is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Larry Wilson; and his sister, Barbara Ward.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Sally Wilson; his sons, Brandy Wilson (Crystal) and Roger Wilson (Dana); his grandchildren, Brandon Helms (Amber), Kayla Cole, Kevin Helms (Cassie), Tyler Wilson, and Brooks Wilson; his great-grandchildren, Remington Cole, Brooklyn Helms, and Elijah Helms; his brothers, Danny Wilson and Dale Wilson; and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Morning Star Lutheran Church, 12509 Idlewild Road, Matthews, NC. A visitation will be held prior from 10:00 to 11:00 am. After the service, interment will be in the Morning Star Lutheran Chapel Columbarium.
