Bill moved to Charlotte, NC with his family when he was just thirteen years old. He went on to attend South Mecklenburg High School and graduated with the class of 1965. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.
In 1969, Bill began working for Southern Bell and stayed loyally with the company through numerous name changes until his retirement.
Bill married the love of his life, Laura Joy Lamb, on March 7, 1970 at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC. Bill and Joy have been dedicated, long-time members of the church since the early 1970’s and Bill served as a Deacon and an Elder.
Bill had a passion for the Boy Scouts program and was a founding leader of Pack and Troop 70 at Paw Creek Presbyterian. He was also a devoted Active Brother of the Order of the Arrow starting in 1993 until his passing.
Well and widely loved, Bill was able to find fun and joy in almost every situation. He loved dancing so much that you’d find him up and moving anywhere and any time there was music playing. He was truly the life of the party and a really fun time for all those lucky enough to know him.
Bill could often be found working outside and tidying up the yard, and he really enjoyed riding his John Deere Lawnmower around. He also made sure to always keep his bird feeders full with the right kinds of food to attract the right kinds of birds.
In the fall, Bill always looked forward to all the carnivals celebrating Halloween, his favorite holiday.
Those left to remember Bill include his wife of 51 years, Joy Tyler; his daughter, Christy Corder and her husband, Heath; his son, Bobby Tyler and his wife, Tina; his granddaughters, Alexis Tyler, Autumn Ballenger, and Cayleigh Tyler; his sister, Linda Goodwin; as well as many other loving relatives and friends.
Bill is now dancing up in Heaven with his parents, Clyde and Juanita; and his grandson, Mateo Tyler.
A memorial service to honor Bill will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, 7400 Mt. Holly Rd., Charlotte, NC 28214. The visitation will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s name to the Boy Scouts Troop 70, Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, Boy Scouts of America - Mecklenburg County Council, or the charity of your choice.
