died Jan. 30 in Charlotte after
an extended illness. Born Dec. 1, 1935,
in Norfolk, VA, he graduated from
Tulane University and served in the
U.S. Navy. He and his
dear wife Diane Finlayson Sanders
raised their family in Charlotte,
where he worked at J.N. Pease
Associates as a mechanical engineer.
Bill was a member of Eastern Hills
Baptist Church, where he served
as a Sunday School teacher
and deacon. He loved singing
and playing the piano. He introduced his
children to the great music of
Elvis and the Statler Brothers.
His family has fond memories
of "wee-jumping" in the waves at
Ocean Drive and of long hours
at swim meets. His children are
thankful for him always taking
pictures and movies to create
a family history that will never
be forgotten. In addition to his parents,
Bill was preceded in death
by his daughter, Ashley Sanders.
He is survived by his wife Diane
of Charlotte; daughter Courtney
Connor of Cincinnati, and spouse Dan,
son William “Tripp” Sanders of
Winston-Salem and spouse Jennifer,
grandchildren Matthew Walston
of Columbus, OH, Taylor Walston
of Alexandria, VA, and Benjamin,
Luke, and Elizabeth Sanders of
Winston-Salem; and brother John
Sanders of Summerville, SC.
Services will be held at 2 p.m.,
Monday, Feb. 3, at Wilson Funeral
Home, 5301 Albemarle Rd., Charlotte,
NC 28212. The visitation is
from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the
funeral home. In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions
may be sent to either Eastern Hills
Baptist Church at 4855 Albermarle
Road Charlotte NC or
Redeemer Presbyterian Church,
1046 Miller St., Winston-Salem,
NC, 27103.
