Charlotte - Bill O’Neal, 64, of Charlotte and Lake Wylie, died unexpectedly at home on February 23, 2014. He was born on August 26, 1949 in Charlotte, North Carolina, son of the late William B. O’Neal Sr. and Helen Ratteree O’Neal.
Bill graduated from Myers Park High School in 1967. In 1970 he founded B & B Pet Store on Eastway Drive, which he owned and operated for ten years. In 1980, he closed the store and went to work as a licensed nursing home administrator with his father, running the family business, Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home on Sharon Road. After his father’s death in 1986, Bill and his wife Judy and son Corey continued to run the Nursing Home until it’s closing in fall of 2005. He then retired and moved his family to Lake Wylie, South Carolina. Bill enjoyed fishing, building computers, woodworking and grilling. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and knack for fixing computers.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Deffenbaugh O’Neal; his son, Corbin D. O'Neal, both of the home; aunt Cheryl McDaniel of Lesslie, South Carolina; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Mowry (Terry), and Michele Deffenbaugh and her special friend Curt Schmidt; brothers-in-law, Neal Deffenbaugh (Nancy), and Kevin Deffenbaugh; niece, Sandy Peterson (Brad), all of West Bend, WI; and many family and friends. He was also preceded in death by his uncle, Jerry McDaniel, and aunt and uncle, Vada and George Cornish.
The funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, February 28th at the Harry & Bryant, “Chapel in the Oaks”, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
