William "Bill" R. McGinn Jr.

William Ralph McGinn, Jr.,”Bill”, 60, of Matthews passed away on May 28, 2013. Bill was born on May 5, 1953 in Charlotte, to the late William R. and Mary Ellen McGinn. He graduated from Garinger High School in 1971 then joined the US Navy where he served for 13 years and fought in Vietnam. Bill was employed by PCA International, formerly of Matthews, for 32 years and was currently employed with the Security Force at CMC Medical Center –Pineville. Bill was a member of Matthews Presbyterian Church and VFW Post #2423 of Indian Trail where he served as past Post Commander. He was also a member of the Derita Masonic Lodge. Bill was a lover of beach music and enjoyed visiting Ocean Drive Beach in SC. He loved working in his yard and tending to his small garden. He never met a stranger and always enjoyed talking about World history as well as Mecklenburg County history.

Bill is survived by his wife of 35 years, Cathy Bamburg McGinn, their son, Justin W. McGinn, and a sister, Sue Turbyfill. He was predeceased by his sister and brothers in law; Macy and Wayne Hancock and Burt Turbyfill.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 9:00pm Friday, May 31, 2013 at McEwen Mint Hill Chapel 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Rd. Charlotte, NC 28227. Graveside services will be held at 10:00am Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Sharon Memorial Park with full military honors. Family requests that memorials be sent to Matthews Presbyterian Church P.O.
