William David "Bill" Hyland Jr.

Born August 23, 1922 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Bill was a son of the late William David Hyland, Sr. and Lucille Seldomridge Hyland. He was a graduate of Central High School in Charlotte, and received his Business Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Bill spent his career in the accounting field, and had worked with Radiator Specialty, Charlotte Aircraft, and Employment Security Commission. He was a member of American Legion Post 400, Carolina Classic Barbershop Chorus, and Hickory Grove United Methodist Church in Charlotte, and Fair View United Methodist Church in Mooresville. Bill enjoyed music, fishing and hunting.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his stepmother, Rubie Hyland, and his sister, Helen Shropshire.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carrie Teeter Hyland, whom he married December 17, 1955; his son, David Hyland and wife, Brenda, and his daughter, Carol Carman, all of Mooresville; grandchildren, Jeremiah and Jessica Astrach of Hickory, Joshua Astrach of Mooresville, Jackie and Brian Heath of Columbus, OH, Rachel and Randy Hastings of Washington, PA, and Natalie Hyland of Fort Mill, SC; great-grandchildren, Eden of Evans, GA, Brendon and Kaylee of Hickory, Riley of Mooresville, and Faith of Washington, PA. Also surviving are Bill’s brother, Oren Lee Hyland, and sister, Polly Shropshire.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 12:00 until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 6401 Hickory Grove Road in Charlotte, with Bill’s funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Susan Harrison, the Rev. David Calhoun, and the Rev. Mike Goode will officiate. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
