Rev. Helms, 93, of Charlotte, went to be with His Lord Sunday, May 20, 2012.

Born October 17, 1918 in Charlotte, Rev. Helms was preceded in death by his parents, Stafford McGee Helms and Mary Leila Allen Helms, and his wife of 70 years, Margaret Helms; as well as two brothers and three sisters.

Rev. Helms retired after 30 years from Railway Express Agency and 55 years pastoring various Baptist churches, the last being 20 years at Hunter Acres Baptist Church. He loved being with his family for gatherings and with his church family, especially at homecomings.

He is survived by sons, Bill, Jr. and wife Nan, and Roger Dean and wife Tinna, and daughter, Karen England and husband Larry, as well as six grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Rev. Helms’ life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 23rd in the chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Home with the Reverend Don Newell and the Reverend Buddy Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery with grandsons and great grandsons serving as pallbearers. Rev. Helms’ family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
