William C. Bodmer, 82, of Charlotte, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Carolinas Medical Center Pineville. He was born on June 18, 1933 in Utica, NY to the late William Bodmer and Dorothy Ruback Bodmer.
Bill attended college at Mohawk Valley Community College and graduated in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 as part of the 1170th Military Police. Bill was a member of Chalmers Memorial ARP Church where he served as a Ruling Elder, Assistant Treasurer and chaired the Pastoral Search Committee. He worked at Lamson Corporation, Syracuse, NY from 1957-1979 in multiple roles including department manager in System Design and Cost Estimating as well as Sales Engineer. He founded W.C. Bodmer & Associates as an independent contractor in 1979.
Bill coached youth baseball and basketball for many years with longtime friend Carlo DellaMea. He also taught ESL through a church affiliated program. He was a life member of Charlotte Power Squadron, a unit of United States Power Squadrons, the nation’s largest private boating organization where he served in many capacities including Commander of Charlotte Squadron and of District 27. At the national level he served on the Historian Committee and the Meetings Committee. Locally, he taught Basic Boating, Aides to Navigation and Rules of the Road to the public and seamanship, Advanced Piloting and Navigation to the Charlotte Squadron members.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Sparbier Bodmer; son, Christopher G. Bodmer as well as his brother Christopher G. Bodmer.
Survivors left to cherish his memory include his grandchildren Paige Bodmer Zaukas of Leesburg, VA and Brian G. Bodmer of Charlotte, NC as well as his great granddaughter Grace Kinsley Zaukas.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Chalmers Memorial ARP Church, 1500 Starbrook Drive, Charlotte, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 also at the church. Burial will be in Sharon Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Chalmers Memorial ARP Church.
