Wayne Kelly, 80, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Monday, July 5, 2021 after a long battle with lung cancer. Son of the late Howard and Mary Kelly, Wayne lived his entire life in Charlotte and graduated from East Mecklenburg High School, class of 1958. He took classes at Central Piedmont Community College toward his electrical contracting license and was owner/operator of Kelly Electric Company for over 40 years.
A man of great faith, Wayne was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Matthews where he served in numerous capacities over the years. The one closest to his heart was volunteering with his church’s Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief Program, traveling throughout the country providing clean up and restoration work caused by natural disasters.
He was predeceased by his son Jeff Kelly and brother Gerald Kelly. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean Kelly; daughter Lori Azbell and her husband Doug; grandchildren Kelly and Charlie Azbell; brother Van Kelly and his wife Joy; sister-in-law Barbara Kelly and nieces & nephews as well as a host of longtime great friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation can be made to the Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief Fund at First Baptist Church of Matthews, 185 S. Trade Street, Matthews, NC 28105.
A memorial service to celebrate and honor his life will be held at First Baptist Church of Matthews on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM with visitation from 10:00 to 10:45 AM and burial to follow at Sharon Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by McEwen Funeral Service.
