Wanda James Harris, 66, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on April 7, 2012 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born in Cornelia, GA, on July 25, 1945 to Kathryn James and the late Lamar James. Wanda graduated from Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing, Atlanta, GA, and received her B.S.N. from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She worked at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA, and later at Presbyterian Hospital, during which time she was also raising two children. She then moved from clinical nursing to home health care. Wanda loved to travel and spend time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Callaway Harris, III; daughter, Whitney and husband, Dr. Allen Jones, of Winston-Salem, NC; son, Chad, and wife, Lisa, of Albemarle, NC; four grandchildren, Copeland, Preston, and Eveleigh Jones, and Emma Harris; mother, Kathryn James, of Cornelia, GA; brother, Sonny James and wife, Marsha, of Clarkesville, GA; and five nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by her father, Lamar James.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 1:00 pm to 2:15 pm at Harry and Bryant Company, 500 Providence Road. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 pm at Little Church on the Lane, 522 Moravian Lane.
