Wanda J. Baker passed away on 9/17/2023 after a long and bravely fought battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Baltimore MD to the late Bertice Baker and Lois Talent Baker of Winter Park, FL. She lived all of her life between Kentucky and Charlotte, NC and attended Wingate College.
Wanda was a fitness coordinator for the YWCA for many years until she found her "calling" and returned to school at 35 years old to become a physician assistant. She impacted many lives and was loved and respected by colleagues and patients alike. She loved hiking, kayaking, playing the guitar, and annual "ordeals" at our beautiful cabin in Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bertice Baker, father-in-law, Robert Mott, and sister-in-law, Susan Mott. Wanda leaves behind her beloved partner and spouse of 39 years, Robin Mott; sister Denise Neyer (Tom) from Tavares, FL; sister Beverly Moore (Lou) from Ashland, KY; brother-in-law Bob Mott from Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law Peggy Parker from Matthews, NC; nieces and nephews Erica Kramer (Ryan, children Peyton, Micah, Ryland), Evan Neyer (DeeDee, children Emery, Eliza), Jonathan Neyer (Christine), Danny Parker (Kat, children Maggie, Tommy, Sophie), Bobby Mott, Katie Wagner (Kurt), Billy Mott, Joey Mott, Chris Bleakley, Ali Trabinino (Sebastian, child, Emma), Collin Elam (Jackie, children Cooper, Baker), Shea Herron (Keith, children JP, Sammy), and Holly Jenkins (child Aspen); and her dear friends Susie Emory, Sally White and Wanda always knew she was Debbi’s favorite!
We would like to thank our many friends and neighbors both in Charlotte and Max Meadows, VA, her beloved friend and physician Dr. Pete Copsis, Dr. Asim Amin, Dr. Roshan Prabhu, Kaitlin Eibiler, NP, and so many more involved in her care. The care, kindness, and compassion of the Levine Cancer Institute team are unmatched.
Wanda's wish for everyone would be to live every day to the fullest and see all the beauty this world has to offer (and buy lots of sunglasses, shoes and watches).
A visitation for Wanda will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 1:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to Levine Cancer Institute in Charlotte, NC, YWCA on Park Rd in Charlotte, NC, or a charity of your choice.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mcewenfs.com for the Baker family.
