Walter M. Newman Jr.

Walter M. Newman, Jr., 69, of Charlotte, died Sunday, February 26, 2012, at Presbyterian Hospital - Main in Charlotte. He was born November 23, 1942, the son of Walter Sr. and Marian (Levin) Newman. Walter received a Bachelor’s Degree from Washington & Jefferson University in Washington, PA. He worked for Air France as a district sales manager in Charlotte before retiring after 25 years.

Walter met his beloved wife, Lisa Schmelzer, in Cleveland, OH. They were united in marriage on March 18, 1967, in Cleveland, and to this union came three children. Walter was a past president and original member of the Triumph Club of the Carolinas and an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He loved to vacation with his family at the beach, especially Emerald Isle, NC.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Walter was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lisa Newman, of Charlotte; three children, Walter M. Newman III and his wife, Mary, of Bullard, TX, Danielle Newman Hartman of Boynton Beach, FL, Michael B. Newman of Lakeland, FL; grandchildren, Sabrina K. Newman and Madison A. Newman of Bullard, TX; Marci C. Hartman, Paulette S. Hartman, and Halle R. Hartman of Boynton Beach, FL; and one brother, George S. Newman, of St. Louis, MO.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at McEwen Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC, with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Metrolina Association for the Blind, 704 Louise Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28204, or The American Heart Association, www.heart.org, in Walter’s name.
