Walter D. Hinson

Mr. Hinson, 76, of Charlotte, went to be with the Lord on Monday March 31, 2014. Walter was born in Cheraw, SC on May 4, 1937 to the late William Daniel Hinson and Hannah Privette Hinson. He served in the US Air Force in San Antonio, TX from 1957 to 1961. He was employed by Continental General Tire, retiring in October 1999 after 32 years of service in the Maintenance Department. Walter was a member of Steele Creek Masonic Lodge, having served as Past Master and Chaplain. He was also a member of Oasis Shrine Temple and Scottish Rite. He was a member of Steele Creek Baptist Church/Lighthouse, which is now Radiant Church.

Walter was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gail Canup Hinson. He is also survived by a daughter, Rhonda Little (Wayne) of Mt. Pleasant, NC, son Mark Hinson (Sharon) of Charlotte; 4 grandchildren, Daniel, Lauren, Hannah, Sarah, 2 step-grandchildren, Wesley and Rebecca, 3 great-grandchildren, Allie, Jacob, and Natalie, 3 sisters, Leona Boatwright (James), Sue Watford (Jimmy), both of Patrick, SC, and Dean McBride of Hope Mills, NC. Special friends, Kristen, Dakota, Seth, JT, many nieces and nephews and his dog Duke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at McEwen Pineville Chapel, where services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 pm with internment at Sharon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, 1420 E. 7th Seventh St, Charlotte, NC 28204.
