Wallace “Wally” William Duncan, age 91, died Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Royal Park of Matthews. Born August 30, 1925 in Winston Salem, he was a son of the late Rufus B. Duncan and Lola Mae Morgan Duncan. His family moved to Atlanta, GA when Wallace was three years old. His parents separated and he was raised by his mother. Wallace attended schools in Atlanta, GA. Eight months after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, his mother signed for him to join the Marines. Wallace was with the 4th Marine Division on Roi Namur, Iwo Jima and Saipan. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received during his dedicated service. Wallace was honorably discharged in November of 1945. He retired in 1990 after 38 years with the Martin-Senour Automotive Paint Company, a division of Sherwin-Williams, where he called on NAPA Jobbers in North and South Carolina. Mr. Duncan was a member of Arlington Baptist Church and the Marine Corps League.
The family will receive friends 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday, September 16th at Wilson Funeral & Cremation Service. Funeral will be held 11:00 AM Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The Marine Corps Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.
Survivors include three sons, Dan Duncan and wife, Linda of Valdese, Jim Duncan and wife, Lee of Miami Beach, FL and Brad Duncan and Yen Hawkins of Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Lisa Duncan of Charlotte; six grandchildren, Dr. Heather Duncan of Greenville, SC, Josh Duncan and wife, Lindsay of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Nicole Ierardi and husband, James of Daniel Island, SC, Samantha Duncan of Charlotte, Logan Duncan of Charlotte and Laura Duncan of Charlotte; a great granddaughter, Adelynn Duncan; and a sister, Dorothy Mewbron of Atlanta, GA. In addition to his parents, Wallace was preceded in death by his wife, of 56 years, Louise Teel Duncan; son, John Duncan; three brothers; and a sister.
