Upon graduating from Duke University School of Nursing, Mrs. Hedrick served in World War II as a United States Army Flight Nurse. After the war, she earned a Masters in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she met her late husband, Philip Hedrick. They married in December 1948 and moved to Charlotte, where Mr. Hedrick began to practice law.
Mrs. Hedrick was a 1954 Charter Member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. For more than forty years, Mrs. Hedrick was an active member of her Westminster Women's Circle and other church programs. Mrs. Hedrick loved working a large vegetable garden with her husband, and especially enjoyed her roses. Foremost, Mrs. Hedrick was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who exemplified in her life the importance of her faith, family and friends.
After moving to Sharon Towers in 2004, Mrs. Hedrick enjoyed meeting new friends and the warm care and companionship of the staff.
Mrs. Hedrick is survived by three children: Elaine Hedrick Ashley (Bill) of Greensboro, NC, Philip Scott Hedrick (Catharine) of Wilmington, NC, and Edward Watson Hedrick (Pat) of Charlotte; eight grandchildren: Lauren Bingenheimer Smith (Blake) of Raleigh, NC, Nancee Elizabeth Bingenheimer of Miami Beach, FL, Jessica Hedrick Statler (Mike) of Graz, Austria, Aubrey Rene Hedrick, Brandon Edward Hedrick and Haley Snipes Hedrick of Charlotte, Luke Padgett Hedrick of Washington, D.C., and Lauren Elizabeth Hedrick of Columbia, SC; two step-grandchildren, Brooke Ashley Shurer (Tony) of Raleigh, NC and Mary Beth Ashley Elliott (Adam) of Wake Forest, NC; one great-grandchild, Charlotte Ives Smith of Raleigh, NC; one sister, Eva Wise Cooper of Lumberton, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 2nd in the Chapel of Harry and Bryant, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
