Virginia Catherine Bryant Short, age 92, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014 while in Hospice care at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center. Virginia was born on February 27, 1922 in Greensboro. She was one of three children born to George and Mary Bryant and spent her formative years in the Greensboro/High Point area. She met her husband, John “Jack” Short, as a teenager and they would go on to spend many wonderful years together, living in Alabama, New York City and eventually settling in Charlotte. Virginia found great joy in helping people and held jobs for Charles Chips, Presbyterian Hospital, and Little Hardware doing just that. She could carry a conversation with anyone, and was quick to make a friend no matter where she found herself in life. She enjoyed gardening, movies, and watching Carolina Panthers games every Sunday. Her greatest joy was her friends and family and she would often spend time with them dining out and playing board games and bridge.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, June 6th at Avondale Presbyterian Church, 2821 Park Road, with Rev. John B. Earl officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
Mrs. Short is survived by a grandson, John Short and his mother, Jan Short, of Charlotte; a brother, Harry Bryant, of Oceanside, CA; a son, John Short and wife and child, of Baltimore, MD.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Short was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Short and a brother, George Bryant.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Novant Health Hospice & Palliative Care,
