Virginia B. Caldwell, 91, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully at home on May 12, 2017. Born September 13, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Ethel Senora Benfield of Newton, NC.
Virginia was a 1943 graduate of Newton-Conover High School and later earned a Good Wife Diploma while seeing her husband through the School of Design at NC State College. She was first “a fulltime mother” and a partner in her husband’s Architectural Practice, and then later retired to work in sales in Charlotte, NC. Along with her husband she was a member of St. Johns Baptist Church where she would create floral arrangements, and Metrolina Chapter American Ex-Prisoners of War, Charlotte, NC.
As a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she brought joy and love to our lives, and to all who knew her. She taught us about giving, compassion, kindness and respect. Her name brings up cherished memories that will echo in our hearts forever. The lives she touched along the way make her a part of who we are, as family, relatives, and friends. She binds us together forever in heart, mind, and soul.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Levi Frank Caldwell; two sisters, Nora Bolick of Newton, NC, and Margaret Hacker of Lowell, NC; two brothers Clyde Benfield of Newton, NC and George Benfield of Merced, CA. Left to cherish her memories are sons Bruce F. Caldwell (Dean) of Belmont, NC, R. Reid Caldwell of Morganton, NC, Michael C. Caldwell of Key West, FL; grandchildren Matthew F. Caldwell (Christy) of Atlanta, GA, Lacy C. Rudisill (Toby); great grandchildren Wesley, Caiden and Whisper.
Graveside service will take place on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte beginning at 11:00am. Funeral Service will take place at St. John Baptist Church, 300 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte beginning at 1:00pm. The family will greet friends after the service.
