Virginia “Sue” Neely, 88, of Rock Hill, formerly of Charlotte, NC, passed away on January 10, 2011. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all that knew her.
Sue was born on December 19, 1922 in Palestine, TX to Jesse and Sybil Crain Moore. She was a graduate of Mary Hardin Baylor University in Texas and received her Master’s Degree from Winthrop University. She retired from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools system after 28 years of service and had a second career as an award winning cake decorator. Sue was a dedicated church member serving as an Elder Emeritus at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church before moving to Rock Hill, SC where she joined Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed her volunteer work at Hope House and especially her work with the ESL program at Oakland Baptist Church.
Survivors include her 2 sons’ Carl Neely and his wife Jeanne of Rock Hill, SC, Jesse Neely and his wife Jane of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; 3 grandchildren Melissa Neely, Carrie Hamilton and Ryan Neely; 3 great grandchildren and 1 brother Jesse Moore of Corpus Christi, TX. Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Carl Eugene Neely Sr.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of the staff at Westminster Health and Rehab in Rock Hill for their wonderful help and kindness in the care of Mrs. Neely. A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, January, 13, 2011 at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Charlotte, NC. A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd. Charlotte, NC 28210 with Rev. Mary Catherine Robinson and Rev.
