Miss Atkins, of Charlotte, died January 18, 2014 at the Levine & Dixon Hospice House at Southminster in Charlotte, NC. She was born April 7, 1924 in Lone Mountain, TN, the daughter of Berneice Chumley Atkins and Samuel Wesley Atkins.
Virginia, known affectionally as “Aunt G” to her many nieces and nephews, graduated from Ithaca High School, New York and UNCG. She was also an educated at Needham Broughton High School and St. Mary’s in Raleigh. She became the secretary to the head of Forestry Dept. at University of Tennessee.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Dr. Sam Atkins and her beloved nephew Mike Irwin. She is survived by her sister Ann Irwin of Charlotte and numerous nephews and nieces.
Miss Atkins was a member of First United Methodist Church. Services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11 o’clock at McEwen Pineville Chapel.
