Vickie was the daughter of the late Gayle Owen Moore and Ruby Estelle Mills Moore. She graduated from East Mecklenburg High School and worked for Southern Bell for fifteen years. She left work to raise her daughter and maintain her home, which included many beloved pets over the years. Vickie enjoyed spending time at Lake Tillery and found comfort in tending to her assorted flowers and plants. She also enjoyed getting up early in the morning and taking pictures of colorful sunrises. Many of her pictures are in family member’s homes to be enjoyed. These pictures will be great reminders to all, of Vickie’s love of the lake. She volunteered in the ER at Carolinas Medical Center as a patient representative until her illness overtook her. She contracted kidney cancer in 2000, cervical cancer in 2003, and finally kidney cancer in 2007, which led to her passing. She was very courageous during these battles and her Oncologist, Dr. Taylor, called her a “Tough Bird.” Even while undergoing her treatments, she still found strength to ensure that her sister and close friends were taken care of and their needs were met. Vickie’s focus in life was on her family and friends, anything but her battle with cancer. That’s what made her fight so special.
Among those remaining to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of forty-two years, Howard R. Poindexter; her daughter, Valerie Amanda Gragg (Chad) of Charlotte; grandson, Tyler Gragg; sister, Kay Nussman (Tommy) of Charlotte; and two nephews, Chad Nussman and David Nussman and his wife, Erin, and their daughter, Bradey; and by her mother-in-law, Arzella Martin. She had two special life-long friends, Lamar Snyder of Tennessee and Betty Langford of Charlotte.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers, Doug, Crystal, and Angelina of Carepoint and Presbyterian Hospice nurses, Lynde and Julie.
