I woke up this morning in my Maryland home and looked at the rocking chair that Tim had gifted me in the mid-1980s.  I decided it was time again to do a google search for this fine man.  We knew each other from High Point College.  As I was in grad school in DC, he would make frequent visits from Charlotte to the capitol.  We always laughed together and he wished for a long time commitment.  That was just not possible.   Through these years I've wondered how he had settled.  At one point, as I was on a work assignment to South Africa, we touched based via email.  Having each built busy lives in two different places, we didn't go further in reconnecting.  Each life would have been richer had we done so!

I fondly remember the love and passion that he put into the APO fraternity, always with a eye on service while having fun.  Too, I reflect on long college nights getting into all kinds of good trouble.  He had such a warm heart.

Love goes to Tim's family.  Tim is well-remembered!

I knew Tim growing up in Graham, North Carolina and he was in my high school graduating class of 1976. 

Our families went to church together at First Baptist of Graham, where Tim and I were both in the youth group, visiting fun spots like Camps Caraway and Fort Caswell.  Fun loving,  mischievous at times, Tim was always nice to me. 

Cindy Harden Rentz, who lived two doors down from Tim, informed me of his passing today. 


We have so many fond memories growing up with Timothy and regret that we lost touch with him.  Rest in peace my dear friend.  We will cherish the memories.  Blessings.  Kevin and Martha Bowers

So saddened to hear about Tim’s passing.  I spent a lot of time enjoying music shows and venues with Tim and several other friends.  He was generous, funny and kind hearted. I knew Tim from our APO Fraternity days at High Point College.  Tim was such a dominance among his Brothers during those days and many years after.  He loved everyone.  His passing will most definitely leave an extreme void for those close to him and his family.  My sincere condolences and prayers for peace and comfort in the days ahead for all who loved and cherished Tim.   Rest well my Brother.

I am so sorry to hear of Tim's passing. I was privileged to hire him to work at Boy Scout Camp. He was a funny guy with a gift of story telling. He never met a stranger and he kept the staff entertained. I'm not sure how he got the camp nickname of "Sunkist ", but it sure described the sunshine he spread at Cherokee Scout Reservation.
My prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.

Tim was always a real sweet gentleman! I had the honor of being a brother with Tim in Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity while attending HPU (now High Point University). We were also in the American Humanics Bachelors of Art program, and  were also both Boy Scouts. My husband and attended a cookout at Tim’s house years ago. I’m sad I didn’t get a chance to see him again after moving from Gastonia to Anderson, SC. You will always be missed and loved my friend and brother! 

Tim was a sweet, funny, kind and generous friend. My dad and I met him through Peppi, and would hang and cook out with him over the years. I just miss talking to him. He was honest and good in ways you just don't see every day. He visited the ICU with Peppi to cheer my dad through his darkest days...they always came with some Price's Chicken Coop, to make the unbearable somehow survivable. I will miss his infectious laugh and sweetness. Lisa Blankenship

I knew Tim when we were young and worked at Scout Camp together, where we were tentmates one year.  He was a funny guy and always up for some mischief. Everybody loved "Sunkist".  Nobody was surprised that he went on to build a career serving others.

Occasionally we would cross paths over the years, and then lose touch again.  Keeping up was harder in the pre-smartphone days but I always felt I would see him again.  I never imagined he would leave us so soon.  The world is a little less bright without him.

I attended High Point College (now University) at the same time as Tim. We were in the same American Humanics program, had some of the same classes, and were members of the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, participating in dozens of service projects over the years. Tim and I were both Eagle Scouts and big supporters of the scouting program. Tim had a room in the same suite in the Belk dorm. So, I got to see a lot of Tim and got to know him very well in those four years between 1978 and 1982. I remember Tim as a bright, confident individual with a great sense of humor. My four years at High Point were very transformative for me, and I am very pleased to have known Tim during that time, even if it was only for a few short years.  

I offer my condolences to the entire Gray family.
