Tillman DeWitt Little, Jr., 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 16, 2016. T.D. was born in Charlotte on February 16, 1926 to the late Tillman DeWitt and Verna Thomas Little. He was a proud lifelong resident of the Derita community of Charlotte.
T.D. was a graduate of Derita High School and Kings Business College. He was a longtime member of Cole Memorial United Methodist Church and a World War II U.S Army Air Corps veteran. T.D. retired as a Vice President from Charlotte Liberty Insurance Company after 34 years. He was an active member of American Legion Post 345. In the early years of Little League baseball, T.D. was involved in the establishment of Nevin-Derita Association. His passion and love of kids, coaching and baseball were passed on to his sons and grandchildren. T.D. had an adventurous spirit, he loved to travel, especially the motorcycle trips he took with friends and time spent in N. Myrtle Beach. His genuine warmth and loving heart endeared T.D. to his family, friends, neighbors and all who met him.
T.D. was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Martha Helms Little and sister Peggy Little Gibson. He is survived by his two sons, Tim (Sarah) Little and Tommy (Laurie) Little, grandchildren; T.J. (Kelli) Little, Greg (Janice) Little, Claire Little, Will Little, Adam (Stacy) Little, Michael (Dexter) Little and Allie Little, three great-grandchildren; Grace, Bennett, and Elizabeth and sister, Shirley Little. He is also survived by his dear "lady friend" of over 20 years, Betty Sue McGuirt and her loving family.
A funeral service to celebrate T.D.'s life will be held at 3:30 PM on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Cole Memorial United Methodist Church, 2022 W. Sugar Creek Rd., Charlotte, NC. A visitation and reception will proceed the service beginning at 2:00 PM in the church fellowship hall. Burial will follow the funeral service at Gethsemane Cemetery, 1504 W. Sugar Creek Rd., Charlotte, NC.
