Thomas “Randy” Turner, 70, of Charlotte, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on April 7th, 2023, after an eight-year battle with congestive heart failure. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.
Born August 13th, 1952, in Charlotte, he was the son of the late Jack Louis Turner and Kozelle Goodman Turner. After graduating from Myers Park High School, Randy began his professional career in the mailroom at the Federal Reserve Bank of Charlotte. After forty-seven years, Randy retired as the Maintenance Superintendent.
Randy touched the lives of so many people. His positive outlook and outgoing personality led to a lot of lifelong friendships. As a citizen of the Steele Creek community for forty-four years, he was well known and admired, not only for being a good neighbor, but also for dedicating his time to the Steele Creek Athletic Association, where he served in several capacities, including coaching, umpiring, and refereeing. Randy loved coaching his son in baseball and basketball but also enjoyed mentoring young athletes. The highlight of his career as an umpire was being nominated by his colleagues to umpire games at Cooperstown.
Randy had a green thumb, loved to play golf, was an avid fisherman, and thoroughly enjoyed traveling. Though he had many hobbies, he was most passionate about his family. He was a dedicated family man and especially enjoyed sharing his hobbies with his family. The time he spent and memories he made with his wife, children, and grandchildren were by far what he held closest to his heart.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cynthia Jackson Turner; two children, Krystal Turner Forbis (Daniel) and Kelby Turner (Blair); and four grandchildren, Turner Forbis, Braylee Turner, Gracelyn Turner, and Kamden Turner; as well as his brother, Timothy Turner (Cheryl).
A service to celebrate Randy’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12th, 2023 in the chapel of McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (5:00p - 6:00p) and one hour after the service (7:00p - 8:00p).
