After bravely serving in the Korean War, Mr. McCoy attended Augusta College and Cornell University. He went on to a successful career with Gerber Products Company, retiring in 1993 after 37 years. A talented wood craftsman, Mr. McCoy used his talents to build quality furniture pieces and make the homes of his friends and family more accessible. He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church for many years and found much joy in studying the Bible and listening to gospel music.
Mr. McCoy was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ruth McCoy; and sisters, Ellen Dismuke, Winona Hendrix and Mary Chavous.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth; son, John McCoy and wife, Barbara; daughter, Susan Stinson and husband, Scott; granddaughters, Laura and Bonnie Stinson; brother, James McCoy and wife, Jean; brother-in-law, Mack Chavous; beloved Maggie and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, April 2, 2021, at Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill, North Carolina.
