Miss Shirley Faye Clanton went to be with her Lord early Saturday morning, October 1, 2022, at the Pineville Rehab and Living Center in Pineville, NC. Shirley was born on February 7, 1943 in Rock Hill, SC to the late Willie R. Clanton, Sr. and the late Nell Brigmon Clanton. She is survived by her younger brothers, Willie “Bill” Ray Clanton, Jr. of Rock Hill, SC, and James D. “Cotton” Clanton (Teresa) of Catawba, SC, and a nephew, Cody Clanton (Sarah) of Indian Land, SC.
Shirley was a graduate of Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC. She subsequently moved to Charlotte to begin her career with DuPont around 1965. She was an Administrative Assistant for Elvanol Textile Group for 30 years. She received several awards/bonuses for her work and dedication to her team and Company. She worked very hard to keep all the salesmen on their toes! She was even voted the sweetest, kindest person. After retirement, Shirley continued to work part-time at various venues around Charlotte and was active in her community working the polls at election time, which she enjoyed very much.
Shirley was an active and faithful member of Charlotte’s First Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She sang in the worship choir, attended Bible Study and Sunday evening Life Groups for much of that time. Shirley was a very outgoing person who never met a stranger and especially enjoyed collecting money on Wednesdays for the noon Power Lunches and also for the Wednesday night Fellowship suppers that preceded Prayer meeting. Her great delight was interacting with all the folks who came by her table and more than likely teasing them a bit with her quick wit and infectious humor! She loved people!
Shirley’s strong faith carried her through this past year of serious illness, surgeries, and treatments. She was always quick to share how the Lord was watching over her and helping her in miraculous ways. She definitely felt the prayers of her many friends during some very tough days.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Pineville Rehab and Living Center for their loving care and support of Shirley during her time there. They also would like to thank Dr. Kathryn Brownlee and Dr. Amelia Merrill and their amazing staff at the Novant Cancer Institute for their kindness and compassion as they guided Shirley’s treatments. Lastly, we would like to give special thanks to her life-long friends, Donald and Margie Crosby, for all their support and help during Shirley’s Illness.
Funeral services will be held at McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Pineville, NC on Friday, October 7, 2022. Family visitation will be from 12:00 noon-1:00 pm followed by the Celebration of Life from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. Burial will follow the funeral at Grandview Memorial Park Cemetery located at 620 Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC. (there will be no procession)
